SOS SAHEL International France – Burkina Faso |

“Let's give Sahelians their own means to grow.”
For over 30 years SOS SAHEL has been leading rural development projects in sub-Saharan Africa.
Its goal: to improve the living conditions of the local peoples by combating hunger and poverty in the seven countries of the Sahel (Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Chad and Senegal). Supported by the Sahelians, these actions are intended to facilitate access to basic services – water, health, education – and to develop sustainable agriculture to preserve an environment made fragile by desertification.
SOS SAHEL is recognized as a public interest organization. It is a member of the Charter Committee (a body that accredits and monitors organizations using public funds).
For some twenty years, SOS SAHEL France and SOS Sahel Burkina Faso have worked together on sustainable development projects in Burkina Faso.
Donation from Bel's Foundation
The project to combat food insecurity in young children and schoolchildren, supported by the Foundation, is situated in the North Central region of Burkina Faso (provinces of Bam, Sanmatenga and Namentenga).
In a context where 46% of the population lives below the poverty line, Village Development Committees have asked SOS SAHEL to help them provide a regular and healthy diet for vulnerable segments of the population.
Twenty school gardens will be planted to develop agricultural resources and provide a daily meal to 5,400 students. Food will be donated to improve the short-term health of 4,400 children under the age of five and of pregnant and nursing women suffering from malnutrition. Meanwhile, mothers will be educated about the importance of maintaining a balanced diet for their children, based on locally-produced food.
With its support of €25,000, the Bel Foundation is improving the well-being of young children and schoolchildren alike.
