Bel Foundation

The SOS Children's Villages food program provides one balanced meal per day to meet the nutritional needs of each child in its care.

The program caters to children in the SOS villages, as well as children from the most disadvantaged families in surrounding villages.

In 2016, the Bel Foundation elected to support the program, which fully reflects its mission of supporting charitable initiatives on behalf of children and child nutrition.

As a result of an extraordinary €150,000 donation, the Bel Foundation will finance the daily meals of some 1,700 children at four SOS Children's Villages in Haiti, Vietnam, Madagascar, and Mali.

SOS CHILDREN'S VILLAGE VONTOVORONA

> ANTANANARIVO, MADAGASCAR

The Bel Foundation is providing financial assistance to the school canteen, which feeds nearly 600 children. Guaranteeing a balanced meal every day helps maintain the children's health, while encouraging school attendance. The canteen provides for the school's most vulnerable children, for whom the food is their only full meal of the day. Further, it provides a meal for students who live far from the school — up to an hour away on foot.

Founded in 1989, the SOS Children's Village in Vontovorona hosts more than 130 children at 13 family residences and four homes for SOS mothers, whose eldest children have moved to youth centers. The village also caters to children, teens and adults in the region with dedicated centers for education and healthcare.

Felana Henintsoa Ranaivotahi, head of education a the primary and secondary school

"The school canteen program is beneficial for our students because it provides them with a fully balanced meal," she says. "It also helps families by making things simpler for them."

SOS CHILDREN'S VILLAGE SANANKOROBA

> BAMAKO, MALI

The Bel Foundation is providing financial assistance for the school canteen, which feeds 300 children. This canteen is distinctive for its subsistence-farming program. It is able to grow fruit and vegetables on the land thanks to a well, which also supplies the village with clean water. The produce from the vegetable garden and orchard is used in the village and offered to neighboring inhabitants as well. The program also provides an opportunity for the village gardener to teach children and young people about working the land..

Established in 1987, the SOS Children's Village in Sanankoroba hosts some 150 children at 15 family homes. The village also caters to children, teens and adults in the region with dedicated centers for education and family strengthening.

Charline Bergeron, Head of SOS Children's Village partnership

"To fight the high risk of child abandonment in the Sanankoroba region, SOS Children's Villages set up a Family Strengthening Program, which benefits more than 550 children. Under the program, a day-care center financed by the Bel Foundation was opened in Sanankoroba in April 2007. Every day, the center hosts children from six months to three years of age from the poorest families. The children are cared for by four specially recruited and trained wet nurses. They are fed, cared for and trained for the kindergarten, which they will start attending after their third year. The family mothers are actively involved in keeping the premises maintained."

At the most critical time, 24,000 meals were being served. The SOS Les Cayes school is helping to rebuild the country in the aftermath the destructive 2010 earthquake. The school canteen offers a hot meal to students every day.

Wilfrid ST FELIX, Director of the school of SOS Hermann Gmeiner Les Cayes

"Sustainability has always been central to SOS Children's Village projects. The school was built bearing in mind seismic and hurricane risks. To support the local economy, all the furniture was made on site. The school chairs and benches, for example, were made by students at the local vocational training school.""
