Programme Malin

2018

Since 2010, PROGRAMME MALIN has been helping socially and economically vulnerable families to give their young children proper nourishment, from birth to age three, by offering them a range of very specific support tools. Programme Malin includes information and tips on food, practical advice and recipes for parents, and also early childhood professionals who are at their disposal in order to provide more personalised answers to their questions. In the experimentation phase, Programme Malin is currently deployed in 5 pilot regions in France.

Project supported: design of new digital materials. In the form of an easily accessible game that is simple and fun – the player composes the daily meals for their family; this application will help to complement the Programme’s activities on the ground and thereby strengthen their impact.

Fully funded by the Foundation and developed in partnership with the start-up C’Trop Food, a specialist in providing entertaining content about food, the game will help to circulate the Malin programme more widely.

Social impact: the association aims to reach 200,000 children by 2020.

Sport dans la ville

2018

For 20 years, Sport dans la Ville has been the leading organisation in France for professional integration through sport. Its range of programmes encourage the social and professional integration of 6,000 young people who have signed up.

Project supported: introduction of a nutrition programme for young people, in six French cities (Lyon, Grenoble, Chambéry, St Etienne, Lille and Paris).
The aim is to raise awareness about health and a balanced diet for children active on the association’s sports grounds.

For 20 years, the educators from Sport dans la ville have been involved on a weekly basis in the priority neighbourhoods, offering free sports sessions for kids. The association’s teams have noticed an upsurge in child obesity due to a restructuring of their food regimen, in terms of both meal-times and the food they consume.
The Foundation’s grant would be used to train the people in charge of around thirty sports centres, so that they, in turn, can raise awareness among young people and their families about proper nutrition and doing more physical activity. Workshops to raise awareness about nutrition will also be held, during camps and holiday stays.

Social impact: 4,300 children, aged 6 to 17 will benefit from the awareness programmes and 1,500 families will be monitored.

L’ORMA

2018

Orma is an Italian association whose mission is to encourage physical activity among young people in order to combat obesity and promote well-being.

Project supported: introduction of a programme of nutritional awareness-raising in Milan.
The aim is to reduce obesity among vulnerable urban families in Italy.

ORMA is the partner of the FitforKids programme: launched in Denmark 15 years ago, this programme has already helped more than 2,000 children and their families. FitforKids is currently deployed in Greece, Portugal and Italy.
The Foundation’s grant will be used to organise digital coaching sessions about nutrition, as well as collective and customized sporting events for parents and children.

Social impact: 100 children aged 7 to 13 will benefit from the awareness programme and 50 families will receive coaching.

Le Gret

2018

The international development NGO GRET carries out operations in a wide range of areas (Health, Agriculture, Water, etc.) with the aim of providing sustainable responses for development in solidarity.

Project supported: consolidation of “ALLOLAAFIA”, a programme for personalised information and the raising of awareness about children’s health, through mobile phones (launched in 2016 by GRET and supported by the Foundation).
The aim is to improve the use of good nutritional and health practices by families and infants under the age of two in Burkina Faso.

Each week, the parents of under-twos will receive practical health and nutritional information that is useful and suited to their needs, in the form of text and/or voice messages via their mobile phones. There are regular messages about feeding infants and young children. By making this information accessible remotely, it is possible to reach those members of the population who are farthest away from health services and are therefore the most vulnerable.
The Foundation has decided to provide GRET with support for the third year running to consolidate the “ALLOLAAFIA” programme and ensure it is taken over by a local organisation in Burkinabe’s health community.

Social impact: 1,200 new families will be given free subscriptions.

Vision du monde

2018

The world’s leading NGO for the sponsorship of children, VISION DU MONDE France acts to help and protect the most vulnerable children. Thanks to sponsorship in particular, the association implements development programmes around food, water, health and education. The programmes are conducted on a long-term basis, with the emphasis placed on involving and empowering the local population..

Project supported: deployment of a programme to combat malnutrition in Senegal. The aim is to improve the nutrition and hygiene of children, pregnant women and nursing mothers.

The programme consists in helping families detect and treat cases of malnutrition themselves.

The Foundation is renewing its support for this project for a second year. The grant will make it possible to build and renovate four nutrition sites: these spaces, dedicated to meetings with children and mothers, are used to organize sessions aimed at detecting malnutrition and raising awareness about better nutrition.
A food loft will also be built, in order to store foodstuffs for the children: collected from local farmers and supplied by the families in the villages, the grain and oilseeds are reserved for children suffering from malnutrition. This system of community contribution ensures that the foodstuffs remain accessible all year round and at a reasonable price. Thanks to the stocks in the food loft and the workshops, the women can make use of their knowledge to prepare enriched, nutritional flours that will meet the needs of their children.

Social impact: 2,000 children under the age of 5 and 700 women will benefit from the programme.

Helen Keller International

2018

Helen Keller International, a humanitarian organization, works to combat blindness and malnutrition in some 20 countries in Africa and Asia; every year, its work benefits millions of children and their families. For 20 years, Helen Keller International has been fighting malnutrition through a programme based around staple crops, known as “Enhanced Food Production”.

Project supported: deployment of the “Enhanced Food Production” project across six new municipalities in North Vietnam.
The aim is to help women ensure food security for their families and improve the nutritional status of their children, by setting up vegetable gardens.

Conducted in partnership with the Vietnam National Institute of Nutrition, under the authority of the Vietnamese Ministry of Health, the “Enhanced Food Production” programme provides production inputs (seeds, plants, small livestock, equipment) and women receive training in agriculture, nutrition and hygiene. Once they have been given training and support, they gradually take on a more active role in their community. The vegetable gardens produce micronutrient-rich fruit and vegetables that strengthen and diversify children’s diets. The Foundation is renewing its support for this project for a second year. The grant will be used to set up three vegetable gardens, to supply food for three school canteens. Household farms will be available to 500 families and awareness workshops will be set up for mothers and teachers.

Social impact: 500 new families will be able to benefit from the programme.

Spoon

2018

The American foundation SPOON is comprised of a network of nutrition experts (doctors and nutritionists), responsible for training nurses in around a dozen countries and improving children’s nutrition.

Project supported: nutrition training for nurses in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
The aim is to improve the nutrition of children with disabilities and orphaned children.

SPOON has identified 170,000 orphaned children in Vietnam, the majority of whom have disabilities and eating disorders for which they are not given treatment. The Foundation’s grant will enable 100 Vietnamese nurses to be given training in nutrition and will provide nutritional support to 700 children, nearly 400 of whom are living in orphanages.

Social impact: 700 children aged under 18 will benefit from the project.

L’APPEL

2018

International NGO L’Appel takes positive action to benefit children in three areas: health, education, and water & improving living conditions. The organisation has designed a nutritional education tool designed to combat child malnutrition: the Nutricartes® teaching tool, which takes the form of playing cards and provide a fun and interactive learning method, with clear, simple messages that are easy to put into practice.

Project supported: Creation of a smartphone application for gathering and analysing field data. The aim is to assess the effectiveness of the Nutricartes® teaching resource, deployed in 6 countries since 2017.

Since 2012, the Bel Foundation has provided L’Appel with support at various stages in the deployment of its Nutricartes® teaching tool.
Now that a number of years have gone by, evaluating the tool has become a key part of maintaining continuity in the project. With the Foundation’s support, in 2019, L’Appel will be able to fund the creation of a smartphone app. After collecting the field data, the organisation will use an external evaluation firm to assess the Nutricartes® tool, with the aim of deploying it.

Aide et Action

2018

Convinced that, without education, no economic, social, health or political progress is possible, the International solidarity organization, Aide et action through the education has been contributing since more than 35 years to improve the access and the quality of the education for millions of children and adults. Established in Burkina Faso since 2001, their operations revolve around three key areas : access and quality of education, education for women and girls, and education in hygiene and the environment.

Project supported: Enhancement of a school canteen in Obdaga, Burkina Faso. The aim is to improve the diet of the pupils at the school in Obdaga, by improving meal preparation and conditions.

Within the scope of the “ Village Programme ” conducted by Fondation Orange, Aide et Action is implementing a project in support of school enrolment and health development in the village of Obdaga, Burkina Faso: a health centre, water supply and school are going to be built for the start of the 2019 academic year.

The Bel Foundation decided to be part of this project in order to address the issue of nutrition for pupils at the Obdaga school, as this is a key factor in academic success. The Bel Foundation’s support for Aide et Action will help to renovate and fit out the school kitchens, build a refectory, train the canteen staff in better management and create a vegetable garden.

Social impact: 236 primary school pupils will benefit from the project.

CHRISTINA NOBLE

2018

For thirty years, the Christina Noble association has been helping disadvantaged children in Mongolia and Vietnam through programmes that promote access to healthcare, education and community development assistance. More than 900,000 children have benefited from its support.

Project supported: implementation of a nutritional programme in the canteen of Son Ca nursery school, Vietnam. Supported by the Foundation, the project’s objective is to provide the nursery’s 70 children aged 3 to 5 with two healthy and balanced meals a day and to facilitate improved learning conditions.

In one of the poorest areas of Ho Chi Minh City, many children live in extreme poverty and lack access to high-quality medical care and food. These children are admitted to Son Ca nursery school which provides them with nutritional monitoring. Menus are developed by a medical team to address deficiencies, and two balanced meals are distributed to them every day.

AÏNA, Enfance et avenir

2018

The mission of French solidarity association Aïna, Enfance et Future is to help underprivileged children and young mothers in Madagascar to build a better future for themselves. Through the various facilities it runs (nursery schools, crèches, orphanages, homes for teenagers, training centres) the aim of the association is to encourage the enrolment of 150 children and vocational training for mothers.

Project supported: introduction of canteens in four solidarity nursery schools in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

With the support of the Foundation, for each of the schools in the four villages in the vicinity of Antananarivo, a canteen is going to be built and fully furnished. The association will also set up an agricultural greenhouse and a small livestock farm to supply the school and make it autonomous.
The project will help to meet the daily nutritional needs of each of the children thanks to the distribution of a full meal and a snack. In addition to education and nutrition, work is also under way on health and hygiene.

Social impact: 150 children aged under 6 will benefit from the project.

Racines d’enfance

2018


Since 2004, volunteer organisation Racines d’Enfance has built nine kindergartens at the request of isolated village populations in Senegal. These facilities welcome children aged between 2 and 6, under the aegis of primary teachers trained by the Senegalese state. The organisation has been extending its support to a number of villages in Senegal since 2004.
In order to offer a daily lunch to the pupils of these schools, Racines d’enfance has been involved in specific action concerning school canteens since 2014.

Project supported: Installation of a canteen in the nursery school at Saal, Senegal.

In this rural region of Saal, the organisation identified a need for a school canteen for the children and staff, who were not able to have a balanced daily meal and had to wait till school was over to be able to eat lunch.

With the support of the Foundation, a vegetable garden has been set up and run by the village community. It provides fresh produce for the school kitchen, thereby allowing the children to enjoy a balanced meal daily. And as access to water is vital in order for the garden to function properly in the long term, a well was dug alongside the vegetable garden.

With better staff conditions for their early learning experiences, the children will find it easier to get to primary school, thereby increasing the school enrolment rate.

Social impact: 100 children aged under 6 will benefit from the project.
