2023
Founded in 1976, the NGO GRET works to combat poverty, reduce structural inequalities, promote economic and social rights and protect the environment in around 30 countries.
As a long-standing partner of the Foundation, GRET has been involved on several occasions in nutritional awareness programmes in Burkina Faso. In 2017 and 2018, the Foundation assisted the NGO in developing the “ALLOLAAFIA” programme, which uses mobile phones to inform and raise awareness among disadvantaged families about maternal and child nutrition issues. In 2020, the Bel Foundation renewed its support for GRET to set up a pilot project to relocate milk production and supply seven school canteens in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.
In 2021, the Foundation’s support enabled GRET to roll out and adapt this programme to the Senegalese context. In this region of northern Senegal, GRET’s challenge remains the same: to improve farming families’ living conditions and incomes by bolstering the local milk sector. The Foundation’s support in 2021 enabled two mini-dairies to produce fortified thiakry, an iron-enriched local product made from milk and millet.
In 2023, the Bel Foundation is renewing its support for this programme and will help to consolidate it.
The expected results of this project are:
A total of 300 pupils aged 6 to 12 from four primary schools will have access to a balanced breakfast every day.
